Percent motor loads on Blanchard grinders can be run at 120% to 135% motor loads while Mattison grinders can be operated at 85% to 105% motor load. The nature of the part, contact area, feeds and speeds all have a bearing on the motor load. Under normal circumstances, attempts should be made to run the grinder at the highest practical motor load.
Thus, the first Blanchard Surface Grinder was born in 1909. Once word spread about this new machine tool, inquiries came pouring in. Winslow Blanchard obliged and began building vertical rotary surface grinders. The first machine was a 16″ diameter grinding wheel with a 26″ diameter work table. It was a relatively simple, but effective machine.
Blanchard Grinding, technically referred to as Rotary Surface Grinding, quickly removes stock from one side of a part that is typically too large to be Double-Disc Ground. Parts as large as 42.5″ × 42.5″ or 64″ diagonally can be Blanchard Ground on our largest machine. Dimensional tolerances to ± .001″, parallelism to .001″, and ...
CNC programming for Blanchard grinders is easy to learn. Standard M & G code is used to program machine cycles for repetitive jobs. A standard grinding program is provided with all CNC Blanchard grinders that can be easily edited by the operator or programmer. Numerous programs can be written and saved for later use.
